I have been strength training at the Dresden Row location for eight months and I am still slightly amazed by the results of just two 30-minute sessions per week. Both my strength and energy level have dramatically improved. The changes come gradually, but they are significant. My trainer, Mathieu, is enormously motivating and explains the science behind every activity. He carefully tracks my progress so that we can review periodically. It’s fun to actually see your progress mapped out in a comprehensive report. In some instances, I am now able to handle more than double the weight of my early sessions in January. The InBody scan is also far more detailed than any body composition testing that I have come across elsewhere. I am in mid-life, and a friend of mine calls her strength training her "nursing home prevention plan," which is only partially a joke. If you are considering making an appointment for a consultation, just do it! Highly recommend!Linda W7 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
I have been so pleased with my progress at One Up Fitness and with Mathieu Charlebois my trainer. I joined 5 months after a hip replacement operation and would give credit for my full recovery 7 months later to my commitment to the program and the leadership and guidance of Mathieu as he/we figured out what I needed next through the process. He also introduced me to his colleagues who had good specific advice. I feel stronger and more confident every day in my ability to walk, keep good balance strengthen my body. I know this will be a long time commitment for me as I age with confidence, strength and grace.Caspian Tohidian13 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

One Up motivated me to get in shape, build muscle and invest in my health long term. My personal trainer, Joey, pushes me to do more than I ever thought possible. I joined One to One Fitness over 12 years ago and never looked back! I am currently working with Trainer Mathieu Charlebois who guides and motivates me to get the most out of each workout. Their program of short intense sessions really works for me. I have a standing appointment once I week and if I need to reschedule it is easy to do. You will not find a better training experience. The staff know their science and it shows. I'm building muscle and visibly getting stronger. I started training at the Bedford location more than 4 years ago when I hit my mid-50s and the curves in my spine (scoliosis) started to worsen. Since working with Matt and his team, my neck and back pain have subsided, and I feel the strongest that I've ever been. My 30 minute workouts (once a week) are incredibly convenient and efficient - not only do I get a great strength-building workout, but its good cardio too. I highly recommend OneUp Fitness and their approach to strength training.Scott Nickerson215 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
This is my first experience doing resistance training and I can honestly say that I get more out of a 30 minute session with Joey than an hour at a regular gym. By the time I'm finished I have to sit for 5 minutes before I can walk down the steps. I would highly recommend trying resistance training here at One up fitness to anyone who is serious about gaining some strength and enjoying a beneficial workout. I'm now 76 and have sustained my weekly workouts - yes, still a firm believer! I truly enjoy working with my excellent trainer, keeping my strength and fitness at a level that surprises me. Onward and upward.👍 thank you OneUp. I have been a committed client of OneUp Fitness for several years. I go once a week, work with my trainer and enjoy the benefits every day. As a woman of 72, I attribute my excellent level of fitness to their approach to training. I'm an avid golfer and I walk my 18 holes of golf multiple times a week. I can send the ball farther than I expect! That's the gift of my fitness. At this age keeping fit makes every day an easier day. I've been taking weekly strength training at Oneup Fitness in Bedford for just over a year with what I consider to be amazing results. At first I was skeptical because I suffer from long term chronic back pain and increasing nerve related pain in my right leg however after a few sessions with Matt following the program that he put together for me I began to experience significant improvement in my fitness level with no negative impact to my back or leg. I have also had sessions with two of the other trainers including Joey Mollins most recently and have found the training to be very consistent. In summary I am very happy that Matt convinced me to pursue this and will be continuing indefinitely!Mitchell Hunter307 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
I’ve been training at OneUp Fitness for over a year now and am really enjoying the experience. I’ve always struggled to maintain a consistent strength training routine, so I appreciate how frictionless this experience is. It’s nice being able to just show up and not have to think about machine settings, tracking previous lifts, or evolving the routine over time. The workouts are challenging (without being discouragingly so), and they have turned out to be surprisingly effective over time. I was apprehensive whether 2 x 30 min sessions a week would be enough to move the needle for me, but I’m already down 26lbs and 8% body fat with minimal additional lifestyle changes. Thanks to Matt and his team for making working out a more pleasant experience.Steve W313 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

I’ve been coming to OneUp fitness now for about 4 years, and plan to stay! The personal trainers are so knowledgeable, and truly want to help you achieve your best! After working from home during the pandemic, I suffered from extreme back issues - the trainers were patient and 4 years later - I no longer worry about back spasms every time I move the wrong way! Through one -on-one sessions , we are continuing to work on strength training and flexibility- although always challenging, the results are way more rewarding!! Their fitness model really works. 15 Sessions In: My Muscles Have Opinions Now. I just finished my 15th session at OneUp, and let me tell you — my body has changed, my strength has skyrocketed, and I now measure time in soreness levels: Day 1 – Spicy. Day 2 – Regret. Day 3 – Empowerment. When I started, I could barely back press 80 lbs without feeling like I was lifting a small Honda. Now? I’m up to 100 lbs! My form? According to my trainer, it’s the best of anyone he trains. I can’t disclose his name because he told me to keep that compliment to myself 🤭. (Don’t worry, your secret’s safe-ish with me.) But this isn’t just about lifting heavy things while making dramatic noises. OneUp’s program is tight, efficient, and science-based. Just 30 minutes, once a week. That’s it. And yet? My metabolism is fired up, my body composition is shifting, my lower back pain is down, and I no longer have to brace myself when I sneeze. The trainers are kind, brilliant, and genuinely care about your health and goals. They know how to push you without making you cry (unless you’re into that kind of thing). I leave every session feeling like I’ve done something incredibly good for myself — even if I need to lie in the car for 10 minutes after. If you’re looking for real results, smart guidance, and a place that treats strength training like the self-care it truly is, OneUp is the one!George Fisher458 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

I have been doing strength training regularly once a week for ten years now (since a back injury) and it has made a huge positive difference in my life. I have had several trainers and my latest, Mathieu Charlebois, is terrific. He is very careful about form and this makes me get the best possible out of a session. He is also very pleasant to work with. I feel I am moving into a higher level of fitness. My core strength means that my back does not bother me and in general I move like a person much younger than my years.Jan Fralic-Brown486 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
As a soon to be sixty year old post-menopausal female, I'm very concerned about maintaining my strength, balance, and agility for as long as possible. I've been active all my life, but I've never felt so continuously challenged and supported by any workout regimen as I have with the strength training (and trainers!) at One Up. Over the past 2 1/2 years I've felt so many benefits of working one on one with a trainer on equipment designed to provide the most optimal strength development: the improvements in strength, stamina and cardiovascular fitness; increased self-confidence, focus, and ability to deal with stress; and the joy that comes with testing and moving beyond my perceived limits. I am never bored with the workouts - it's only once a week, we switch things up, and working with a trainer is motivating. It's an indispensable part of my life. It helps me love this life! Update: I'm still here 5 years later, and everything I said in the first review is still true. On top of that, after experiencing a back injury this past fall, the combination of physiotherapy from One to One and the subsequent modifications in my strength training brought me back (ha!) to full recovery. For me, strength training in the studio acted as an extension of the physiotherapy and I now appreciate the benefits of its slow and heavy approach to training even more. My current trainer, Renita, has been phenomenal, especially in being able to safely take me to my limits, and continually keeping me working in good form and mentally focused.Lucy526 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

I stumbled upon OneUp about a month into my "reboot my life" journey. I didn't know the first thing about going to a gym and was frankly way too intimidated to consider stepping into a regular gym. And I had NO knowledge of what to "do" in a gym. However, I wanted to add something new to my routine that would help me on my path to a healthier lifestyle. OneUp turned out to be the perfect solution. The idea of a space without crowds and having someone guide me through each workout was very appealing. Everyone I have encountered has been incredibly welcoming. Special kudos go to Paul, who made me feel like I belonged there from day one and made it easy to try something completely new. It's been nine months, and I can't say enough about what I get out of OneUp. Paul has taught me a lot and kept me motivated, not just with what I'm doing at OneUp but in all aspects of my journey. He consistently pushes me beyond what I ever thought I could do and makes me laugh hard while doing it. Honestly, it's one of the best parts of my week. If you're hesitant about starting or looking for something way better than a regular gym, I highly recommend giving OneUp a try. Strength Confidence Performance I’ve had the pleasure of training and being coached by the owner, Matt. The focus and excellence in coaching me to get out of my comfort zone, to push myself farther than I could have imagined myself to do is what I believe differentiates OneUp from a typical gym experience. Three months later I am definitely stronger. That is evident in carrying out everyday activities, in my physical appearance and how clothes fit. That’s been the most exciting changes I’ve seen and others have told me they see. My confidence performing on the exercise machines has significantly improved such that I can achieve muscular failure in one set. The literature is abundant about the benefits this can bring. The entire team at OneUp all seem to have one goal. Get their clients stronger performing exercises in a safe manner with a time commitment of less than an hour a week. In my experience they have exceeded my expectations of what strength training is and the results I can achieve. Call them and try it out. It’s challenging. It’s hard work. I am 85 years old. I have been strength training with OneUpFitness for 15 years - - once a week for about 25 minutes. The same basic routine works each of my major muscles to the point of exhaustion. I am continuously amazed at how effective this program has been. My retention of muscle strength, despite aging, is unbelievable- - especially for such a small investment of time! And I have never suffered even the slightest injury. I have been going to One Up for 5+years for strength training. About 18 months ago I stopped because I was told I was high risk for Osteoporosis and the Doctor told me to stop doing weights because I could fracture a bone. Instead I was put on a very strong drug that made me ill and I was told I’d be on it for 5 years. But good news! The hospital bone density test was wrong. They expunged my record. Always get a second opinion! I was told to get off the meds and to resume “light weights”. That’s when Matt and Mike explained to me that weight training is the very best thing for bone density. Review I’m a female in my 50’s and have been going to various gyms most of my adult life. A few months ago I joined One Up Fitness on the advice of a friend. I am only able to go once a week but within just a few weeks I began to see a noticeable difference in my body shape and tone which is remarkable considering the short amount of time I’ve been going. This is a very different way of working out and in my opinion it is the most bang for my buck that I’ve ever gotten at a gym. My trainer Matt is very knowledgeable and professional and pushes me much harder than I would ever push myself. He always explains in detail how to perform each exercise and what muscles we are targeting. I would not be attending a big box gym right now due to the coronavirus but these private training sessions are perfect. I've been training at OneUp in Bedford, once a week, for the past 3 months. Recently I decided to play gentlemen’s hockey again, after about 6 months off the ice. My first time back was for a charity hockey tournament in which I ended up playing four, one-hour hockey games over the span of 8 hours. All day, I was able to keep up with folks who were younger than me and I found I was hardly winded. I know this was a sure sign that my training at OneUp has improved my stamina, cardio, strength, and mobility. Putting in the work with quality equipment and trainers (for only a half an hour per week) has been a total game changer in my life. Thank you for two important things--my time and full-body physical fitness.+0Adam Kayfitz2546 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
I have been doing OneUp workouts approximately once per week for over a year. As many people, I'm very busy in my professional and personal life and had very little time to commit to fitness and health. A colleague of mine recommended OneUp as a solution. Initially I was skeptical. I could not understand how 30 minutes once per week could benefit me. Once I understood the science and then went through the workout, it made complete sense. Matt, the owner and one of the trainers, is excellent at explaining the science of building muscle and of how the workouts contribute to current and then to future health. The workouts are very simple (weight machines), safe, yet very challenging. At the end of a workout I am tired, sore, have elevated heart rate, yet very little sweat (they keep the gym cool and you have fans so you don't overheat). I have not been injured once in my workouts. I would always have little nagging injuries from other gyms that would stop my progress. The trainers push you to your limits, to a place I would never be able to go by myself, to the point of complete muscle exhaustion and failure. No lies, the muscles are burning and shaking and it requires maximum effort. That said, you are never pushed beyond your capabilities or to a point where you will get injured. You do what you can and if you fail, that ok and it's actually good to fail as you know you have done all you can. I don't have to pay attention to how much weight I'm lifting, or how many reps I am doing. All I focus on is the technique and the breathing and following what the trainers say. To have a fully body strength workout in 30 minutes a week that maximizes effort and cuts out all the erroneous "time wastes" fits perfectly for my life and what I'm looking to achieve.John and Heather Pickford2656 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

Fantastic program! I work in the area as an engineer, and as a busy professional it has been extremely convenient to fit the half hour workouts into my work week. I'm able to get much more out of the workout in a short amount of time than I would on my own with a much longer workout. I came to OneUp Fitness after a lower back injury to get help safely performing strength training again. I had injured myself previously, but any attempts at strength training on my own was resulting in aggravation of the injury. The coaching I have had in workouts every week have provided me a safe environment to get stronger, and the confidence to do activities I had been missing out on post-injury. Would highly recommend.Rick D2664 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

Terrific program. Great equipment. Knowledgeable, helpful, encouraging trainers. The half hour sessions mean I can always get a workout in no matter how hectic my week is.Shiela C2889 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
I loved it! The workouts are quick, and you think, too quick, but after 6 sessions I was down 6” overall body measurements. It works. It’s not your typical gymSuzanne Short2924 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
The old adage, “Use it or lose it” is true: At 61, I know this first-hand. I’ve always been athletic, but often in fits and starts. We now know that science tells us that maintaining strength is key to vibrant aging – that we don’t get sick because we get old, but because we get weak. So when I moved to Nova Scotia last spring to be more active in the lives of my grandkids, I researched fitness options, looking to challenge myself in safe, efficient and enjoyable ways. I was familiar with the concept of high-intensity strength training – an approach that promises minimal time requirements while producing maximum results - but had never tried it. Matt and his OneUp Fitness team truly deliver on this promise. During my initial twice-weekly 30-minute sessions (that’s it!) I learned how to step up to the OneUp Fitness challenge - determine my current capabilities then push past them. One-on-one coaching spurs on my progress. My workouts are always safe and efficient. They became enjoyable after spending a couple of weeks acclimatizing my body to the effort required. I look forward to seeing where my OneUp Fitness journey takes me, a journey I encourage everyone to take. Together, we can blast through those ever-present, ridiculously-limiting stereotypes about aging!Moussa Noun3046 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

I was looking for a few specific things in my search for a fitness program and comfortable training environment - a more efficient and effective workout that could be tailored to my specific health and fitness priorities, 1 to 1 training with expert coaches, and a professional training environment that focuses on tangible results rather than mass classes or rows of Lulu Lemon lined up on the treadmills. A friend mentioned One Up and, being curious, I tried out the introductory session. Their model is unique from the ubiquitous mass production gyms and fitness programs that saturate pop culture and the HRM. The One Up program is back by hard science, detailed research, and an explicit dedication to ensuring that clients meet their goals and progress to goals in a safe, incremental, and supported way. I can truly say that this is the best fitness program I have ever had. Why? Because of the combination of the instructors and the model of fitness generation. I work with Matt almost exclusively but all the instructors are similarly knowledgeable, engaging, supportive, and safety conscious. With Matt's encouragement and guidance in strength training, I hit new personal best performances almost every session and I have the tools to maintain this when I travel for work. It's also fantastic to know that after my targeted 30-minute workout, I know I've worked as hard as a much longer workout elsewhere but I can get dressed and go immediately back to work. Quite literally, they have it down to a science and I've achieved exciting goals as a result. I also completed the 6-week lifestyle coaching program with Matt. This program is designed to help support targeted fitness goals - whether weight loss or introducing a more balanced nutritional lifestyle, etc. This was a fantastic experience, providing 1 to1 meetings, body composition analysis, and planning/problem-solving. I gained lots of valuable knowledge about how to incorporate my paleo nutritional goals and lost 14 lbs over the course of the program. If you're looking for a safe, efficient and highly effective way to meet (or jump start) your fitness goals, I highly recommend One Up. In my opinion, they're the Number 1 fitness program in HRM for all people who are serious about regaining or protecting their health and fitness. With a free introductory session to try it out, you'll be hooked too!DP Steyn3549 days agoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

I walked into OneUp Fitness for the first time in January. It didn't feel like a gym at all, it feels more like a studio. My initial consult was with Matt, a graduate of the Kinesiology program at Dal and a personal trainer at OneUp. The initial consult is enlightening. I have played competitive sports for most of my life, yet I had not been exposed to anything like OneUp's approach to fitness. I am a firm believer that a stronger body lives better and lives longer, the question is how does one find the time to maintain that regime...? Try OneUp Fitness, they are also in Bedford. All it takes me is two 30 minute sessions a week. My mom is on program too!Load more
